Brain Damage

Neurosurgery, or trauma to the brain, causes swelling of the brain because of damage to the blood vessels associated with trauma and free radical injury associated with the release of free iron from hemorrhage. Oxygen therapy reduces tissue swelling - even in severe head injury (ref.)
