10 years of RSD
Motorcycle accident, surgeries, casts, medicines, and PAIN
2007-2008
I am an archeologist working in Mexico and a California University professor for over 20 years. I was in a motorcycle accident 10 years ago. I have a pump for medicine and several patches for pain control. NOTHING helps me at all. I used a walker or wheelchair and I was home bound. I was unable to drive for over 10 years and lost my position at the University facility because of disabling RSD.
I called Rapid Recovery Hyperbarics, I under went over 100 HBOT treatments and was able to drive and lower my drug control with great care because of the withdrawal from years of drugs, pump instilled medications, and patches.
My RSD was a very long standing disease process complicated by well meaning doctors who insisted that I have more surgery over the next 10 years. My foot, ankle, and leg were very red and swollen all the time. Physical therapy only made the situation worse. Adding my age of late 50’s and prolonged inactivity, I became far worse all the time. It came to the point where I was unable to even brush my teeth.
Susan and Dr Underwood warned me about not over working my activity when I was improving; rather take it easy, elevating the limb and being very careful. Susan was so very correct when she said that we should treat the affected foot, ankle and leg, reversing bone loss and atrophy of the muscle. Then work on the brain where the messages were mixed up allowing pain in the sympathetic nerves and not in the central nerves. Susan and Dr Underwood were so very honest and sincere when they gave me the RSD studies showing HBOT and RSD were promising. Also, Dr Underwood started me on a lower and good carb type diet with more protein and vitamins.
My pain and swelling left, FINALLY my leg did not have the red sock appearance that it had for over 10 years! Slowly I started to walk and wear a shoe with normal socks! No longer was the long standing edema, which pitted my ankle, so much!
We decided that it was time for a break, (normal protocol) my situation and condition was different than others because I had an implanted device, which mandated that I be only allowed to be treated at 2 atm and not the normal protocol. So I was well aware and notified that it may take a longer period of time for recovery. However, just to be 90 % better was like heaven to me!
I am returning to have a brief amount of HBOT. But my improvements are outstanding to say the least! I am no driving the car everywhere! I am wearing shoes and able to carefully do my house work, laundry and most of all enjoy my loving husband who has been my devoted dear friend all these years with out fail.
Susan made me feel like a family member, she was always there when I needed her. She came in for over 3 months giving up time with her family 6 and sometimes more days a week. Her kindness towards me will never be forgotten. I only wish I had found HBOT 10 years ago! I will be returning for more therapy in two weeks.
If you have RSD, wisely consider HBOT!! GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU!
Sincerely
